Day 5   

     It is scorching hot. Truely unbearable. Today we finished Oklahoma, went through Texas, and stopped in New Mexico. And as odd as it may seen it started with a truck on fire. Thank God it wasn't ours.In other events, today was just long boring stretches of desert. But don't worry I did spot some cowboys. But don't let my little sister know. She claims that people in Texas wear motorcycle helmets instead of cowboy hats. Now let me tell you she is a character.
     This trip was so boring that everyone (excluding the driver) fell asleep at one point, and it wasn't pretty.I even had to be waken up just to take a picture of the state welcome signs. That didn't go well. The pictures I got were either blurry or not the entire sign, and I didn't get one of Texas because I forgot to put the SD card in the camera. Therefore the picture I did take (which happend to be the bottom right corner of the sign, patially covered by a MAC truck, and a strange man walking along the highway) did not save.
     Tomorrow we are stopping in Arizona. I heard it is supposed to be aroud 107 degrees. Well I am grateful that I will be outside in a cabin at a KOA, that does not have an AC unit. I hope you hinted at my sarcasm there. Not excited about tomorrow. We asked an employee at an ice cream shop here in New Mexico if it will get cooler, he said no. And I am relieved to find out his wonderful advice for us tomorrow was "That Sucks!". Bummed.

Day 4

      Today was the longest day I have ever experienced, everything you can think of went wrong. To start off the cat got stuck under the bed, there were problems with the cars hubcap, we got lost in Oklahoma, and not to mention everyones emotions. It was the longest drive so far in our roadtrip across the U.S., and that does not make for a very happy mother. We went through Akansas and stopped in Oklahoma City.
     The first thing you notice about Oklahoma is the wonderfully smooth roads. Then you notice the very native American Influenced names of things throughout the state. But thats not the most shocking thing. As I happend to be walking out of the back door of the hotel I stumbled across approx. six-seven men having a BBQ on the back of their pick-up truck. Now let me tell you, that was quite surprising. They said that they were tired of eating out, how interesting.
     I wish I had more of Arkansas to talk about, but to be completely honest I was sound asleep for most of that ride. One thing that I do remember is that there is a road named Chelsea Ave. Yay! Check back in tomorrow.

    

Day 3

      Two words Elvis Presley. He is everywhere in Memphis. And not just Graceland but, in the resturants, and souvonir shops. It was a great experience seeing Elvis's home and was very entertaining. But beware of bringing your older family members because the tour is listening through headphones and they might have trouble hearing. But that is not the only reason. Sometimes in a quiet environment they just tend to speak a bit to loudly for comfort. Unfourtunatly, no one wants to hear your 89 year old grandmother "whisper" that she can't hear anything.
     Another event that occured was eating lunch at Marlowe's. It has been visited by the show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". It was absolutely delicious, but I could have done without being teased for ordering a club sandwhich at a BBQ place.
     After a slightly relaxing two days, we get back on the road tomorrow so bye for now!

 

Day 2

    I apologize for not writing yesterday, but with nine hours of driving your mind tends to turn to mush. On our second day it was just endless driving. And who knew there was a time difference between Virginia and Tennessee? That confused the GPS's to no end. With every car's arrival time being different and no one knowing who was right. But is added for a little excitement, something we badly needed.
     Tennessee is beautiful but was a little bit of a cultural shock. There is nothing like driving down the road and seeing a confederate flag. None of us was ready for that. Other than that this state is abundant with police cars, debris on the road, and southern hospitality.
     In other news the family has been dealing with the early mornings, long boring time stretches, and constant changes, very well. Although, it has been very difficult secretly transporting the cat in and out a hotel every night. But I cannot wait to see what Graceland brings tomorrow.

    

Day 1

     So today was the first of our 10 day journey across the U.S. Suprisingly enough there have been no extreme hardships or major arguments, but don't hold your breath, there are nine of us. It is truley a once in a lifetime opportunity to be squished in a car with your mom, grandmother, twin sisters, and don't forget the seventeen year old cat including her litter box.
     I promised some of my friends to take a picture of every state welcome sign for every state we drive though. Unfourtunatly, know one suspected it would be this difficult. Most of the pictures are corners, or blurry shots due to the fact that they were taken while inside of a vehicle going approx. 75 miles per hour.
     We have so far made it though four states: New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Most have been quite uneventful. But in Delaware we stopped at the last WAWA we will get to see in 3 years. It was a very sad thinking about how we will not be able to stop by and get milkshakes, or last minute school lunches. We were able to take a picture for memories.
      Our last stop today was in Roanoke, Virginia. It is a town of blue mountains, green rolling fields, battlefields, and caverns. I can't wait to get some sleep and see what adventures tomorrow brings.
